FDT (Field Device Tool) is a technology for managing field devices. This technology has been established as an open specification and is therefore vendor independent.
Device manufacturers add to their individual field devices a piece of software called Device Type Manager or DTM.
FDT frame applications can communicate via DTMs across fieldbuses with each device. Configuration of the device and access of the data is child's play.
