The FDT Group and the ECT (EDDL Cooperation Team) are jointly working on the development of a future standardized device integration technology, known as FDI (Field Device Integration). FDI will be compatible and combine the advantages of the two existing technologies, FDT and EDDL. Close communication with end users throughout this project will ensure that their requirements are fully met. The FDI specification is expected at the end of 2010. Because this puts the availability of market-ready, certified products in the mid-term future, the FDT Group will continue development of the FDT standard and supply state-of-the-art FDT products until a migration to the new technology is possible.
